COMEDY AWARDS

 SEATTLECOMEDY.NET AWARDS

Every year that SeattleComedy.net has been online, there have been plans to post some sort of top comedians of the year list, or some sort of year-end awards.

Every year, those plans seemed to go awry.

As much as there was the desire to celebrate the best in the Seattle comedy scene, it felt odd, somehow, to do it.

It's kind of like giving yourself an award.   (Note that we don't have a "Best Website Covering Seattle Comedy" category.)

But, the info was compiled and it seemed doubly weird NOT to post it.  So, here it is.

In the past versions of this website, you had to activate a hidden link to get here, so you know that we're not making a big deal about it.  (That has changed this year--and there are plans to publicize these awards more this year...but there have been plans EVERY year...)

We never even told the winners that they'd won.  Of course, they're ALL winners with us...

NEXT AWARDS

The 2009 SeattleComedy.net Awards were slowly revealed on the main page of this website in the last week of December 2009.  The write-ups that described why each award was given to who received the awards will be taken off the site on January 9th, as planned.

Expect the 2010 SeattleComedy.net Awards to be handled in a similar manner.

And yes, we're aware of how annoying the royal "we" that we've taken on in these descriptions is...

(*)--Typically our award for "Comedy Show of the Year" goes to one specific show, but the strength of all of the shows at both stages over all three days of Bumbershoot in 2006 made us throw up our hands and just give the award to the whole festival.
(**)--No award was given in this category this year.
(***)--The "Top Local Performer, Female" and "Top Local Performer, Male" categories were new categories for award in 2005--so, there are no awards to list for the previous years.
(****)--We were making a statement by picking "None" as the award winner in these categories.  It's not like we were just lazy and didn't pick one.  In 2006, we felt that there were issues with all of the comedy venues in the area and thus, no award was given in that category.  In 2007, we recognized that there was a group of young female performers about to break-out--but there wasn't a single local female performer to whom we felt we could give the "Top Local Performer, Female" award.
